Brian Aldridge Named Department Chair for the College of Veterinary Medicine

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has named Brian Aldridge, BVSc, MS, PhD, Dip ACVIM (Food Animal), MRCVS, Chair of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Sciences. Aldridge will serve on the leadership team and lead, guide, mentor and develop faculty and staff as the CVM curriculum continues to develop. Aldridge will play a key role in creating a culture that supports the professional success, scholarship, research, and personal satisfaction of each and every member of the college. Aldridge will work closely with Founding Dean Steven Marks to ensure that faculty members in all areas of the college are engaged and thriving.

Dr. Aldridge has a professionally diverse background and brings an array of experiences to the role. From establishing unique curricula for veterinary colleges to clinical experience with food animals, he’s bringing a unique lens to this position as the inaugural department chair for CVM.”

Aldridge has used his passion for teaching and learning to assist and lead in the development and implementation of several high impact educational programs around the world, including new veterinary and medical school curricula in California, Illinois, the United Kingdom, and southeast Asia.

Aldridge’s first day is August 12.

About Brian Aldridge, BVSc, MS, PhD, Dip ACVIM (Food Animal), MRCVS

Brian Aldridge is the Department Chair at CVM. A graduate of the University of Liverpool, Aldridge has worked as an academic clinician, educator and clinical researcher at universities in the United States and United Kingdom. He comes to Clemson from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where he served as a Clinical and Health Innovation Professor with a joint appointment between the College of Veterinary Medicine (UIUC- CVM) and Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CIMED). He also held affiliate positions at the Institute of Genomic Biology, the Center for Digital Agriculture, and the National Center for Supercomputer Applications at UIUC.

At Carle Illinois (CIMED), the first engineering-based College of Medicine in the country, he was involved in the development of a curricular structure, clinical partnership network, and faculty engagement system to train medical students as physician innovators through the creative application of foundational and clinical sciences along with engineering and technology. 

Additionally, Aldridge served as a founding faculty member of Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine in California; he helped establish a unique problem-based curriculum and was involved in the development of the first sustainable models of distributed veterinary clinical education in the US. 

As the Chair of Farm Animal Health and Production at the Royal Veterinary College in London, he helped create a series of regional veterinary education centers in partnership with established livestock veterinary practice consortia throughout the UK. Aldridge’s recent programmatic leadership roles have involved the design, development, and delivery of new ‘extramural’ veterinary curricular offerings through the iLearning Center at UIUC-CVM.
