With more than 12,000 appointments in FY22, ensuring the well-being of Clemson University students has never been more important. By implementing a new protocol designed to assist Clemson students outside of regular business hours, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has reinforced its commitment to providing quality care.
Students in need of assistance after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, or during weekends, holidays and campus closures are now instructed to call CAPS (864-656-2451) and select option No. 2 from a menu of available choices. This will forward the phone call to an after-hours service, which will assist students in the event of emergent needs. Students should continue to call the Clemson University Police Department (864-656-2222) in the event of immediate safety concerns.
“We are excited to introduce this wrap-around service to better assist students,” said CAPS Director Birma Gainor. “We are working with a reputable company that assists colleges and universities, but will continue to have counselors available as a backup for complicated or in-person concerns. This new system will allow CAPS to address student concerns more holistically — no matter when a need is identified.”
