Military Heritage Plaza rededication Thursday

There will be a ceremony to rededicate Military Heritage Plaza in front of Tillman Hall on Thursday, April 21, at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony is open to the public and is expected to last 30 minutes.

The rededication comes after recent upgrades to the plaza, including adding awards received by Clemson alumni from the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The plaza holds special meaning to students who graduate from the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps programs. After they officially become members of the Army or Air Force during their commissioning ceremony, they receive their first salutes as military officers on the plaza during the “Silver Dollar Salute” ceremony.

Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations Tony Wagner, a Navy veteran, will speak at the ceremony. Speakers will tell the history of the plaza and its significance to Clemson’s military heritage.

There will be a ribbon-cutting after the speakers and the plaza will be opened for guests to see all the changes.
