Eligible Faculty and Staff: One-Time Bonus

During the past year, Clemson faculty and staff performed in the face of unprecedented adversity and uncertainty. On July 15, 2021, Clemson’s Board of Trustees approved a one-time bonus for all eligible Clemson employees.

The one-time bonus was in addition to the COLA as detailed below and will be 1.5% of an eligible employee’s base compensation plus salary supplements as of December 31, 2020. Stipends, such as athletic supplements, car stipends, and phone stipends are excluded.

The one-time bonus will be a minimum bonus of $500 and a maximum of $5,000, and the bonus payments will be distributed in the July 30 paycheck – less withholdings and authorized deductions.

This one-time bonus reflects the appreciation of the administration for the work done as the University was able to fulfill its mission while reducing financial losses.

Eligible employees for the bonus plan include:

  • Full-time employees, including FTE’s, Time Limited Positions (“TLP”), Temporary Grant Positions (“TGP”) and full-time hourly workers.
  • Employees who meet both of the following service date thresholds:
    • Are currently employed in an eligible position as of the date of this approval
    • Were employed in an eligible position on December 31, 2020
  • Employees in good standing (excludes employees on a Performance Improvement Plan or suspended in FY21).

Ineligible employees excluded from the bonus plan include:

  • Student employees
  • Intermittent or Part-time Temporary employees
  • The President of Clemson University

To have been eligible for the general increase, the employee must have been hired before June 2, 2021, and be in one of the following eligible position types:

  • Classified Full-time Equivalent (FTE)
  • Classified Time-Limited Positions (TLP)

Faculty and Unclassified Employees: Performance Based Merit Increase

In addition to the one-time bonus as detailed above, for faculty and unclassified staff, Clemson continues to implement its Compensation Plan for FY21. The Compensation Plan for faculty and unclassified staff was approved in the FY 2021-22 budget by the Board of Trustees during its July 2021 meeting.  The plan includes a budgeted pool of 2.5 percent of the total faculty/unclassified employees’ salaries.

Once the plan is available, deans, vice presidents and department chairs will communicate with eligible faculty and unclassified staff.
