Faculty and staff: I.D.E.A. Book Club expands conversation on equity and diversity

The I.D.E.A. (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness) Book Club will be hosting its fall series starting on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. via Zoom to discuss the book The Empowered University: Shared Leadership, Culture Change, and Academic Success by Freeman A. Hrabowski.

The I.D.E.A Book Club was created for faculty and staff to read and discuss books that expand the conversation around awareness of equity and diversity in the world around us. Since fall 2019, members have read books that included Blind Spot: Hidden Biases of Good People; Weapons of Math Destruction, and Factfullness; Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World – And Why Things Are Better than you Think.

The book club is co-sponsored by the Clemson University Office of Inclusion and Equity, Clemson TIGERS Advance and Clemson University Libraries.

“We hope by doing these group readings that Clemson University employees will have a shared syntax through which they can discuss inclusion and equity and effect change here at the University,” said Renna Redd, assistant librarian at Clemson University Libraries. “We selected The Empowered University: Shared Leadership, Culture Change, and Academic Success almost a year ago as something for the group to read because we thought that it would help us take another step in the direction of creating the change we want to see.”
