Almeda Jacks is retiring as vice president for Student Affairs on Oct. 31, 2019.

In a University press release from Oct. 9, Chris Miller was named interim vice president for Student Affairs. He was charged with following the second tenure of Almeda Jacks, who first served as vice president from 1992 to 2006 before returning in December 2014. In the release, Miller was quick to credit Jacks for the legacy she leaves behind, saying, “I am indebted to Almeda for her leadership during my time at Clemson and am honored to be given this opportunity to build on the wonderful work she has done.”

Jacks has devoted most of her life to Clemson, including the time she first set foot on campus as an undergraduate student. She would go on to earn two more degrees from Clemson and spend nearly the entirety of her professional career in the student affairs profession at her alma mater. During her time as vice president, Clemson added numerous residence halls and several facilities to support student success and add to their overall experience, such as Hendrix Student Center, the Barnes Center, the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center and, coming very soon, Samuel J. Cadden Chapel.

In this week’s podcast, Jacks reflects on many of the successes that stand out from her tenure as vice president. She also explains the impact Clemson has had on her family and what she envisions for the future in the Division of Student Affairs.
