The Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business student Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) chapter recently won the Attendees Choice Award in Dallas, Texas. This competition was created to bring together an international community whose primary goal is to promote scientific research and technological innovation within graphic communications.

This year, Clemson’s TAGA student chapter went to compete, submitting works in five different categories. One of which included a 200-page booklet they submitted consisting of research conducted by Powers College of Business faculty and students in the Graphic Communications Department, ranging in topics from dye sublimation to color net. Madison Montgomery, Griffin Sanders, Cassidy Waites, Zach Walsh, Tristan Moss, Keeli Coyne, and Elli Delk joined together as a team to go to the conference and present.

To prepare for the competition, the students, under the guidance of Amanda Bridges, brainstormed how they would fulfill each design element and created the initial draft of their book. Then, in the spring, the students began to bring their vision even more to life by refining it and deciding on a theme based on a popular 2000s TV show.

Madison Montogomery, president of the Clemson TAGA student chapter, explains the importance of the class and the conference. “The CI helped me find a passion for printing. I hadn’t experienced the full process of it before and I ended up loving it. As far as the conference, it opened up networking opportunities with business professionals, professors and students I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I’m grateful to have been part of the experience.”
