Workday@Clemson team implementing ERP achieves important milestone

Share:

Across the University, approximately 150 Clemson employees work alongside experts from Workday, Deloitte Consulting, LLP, and others as part of the Workday@Clemson implementation program. This multi-year business transformation effort, which focuses on modernizing and streamlining core human resources and finance processes, recently completed an important milestone in the development of the University’s new enterprise resource planning system

Clemson has completed the Plan Stage – a phase of the project which focused primarily on developing a new blueprint encompassing what the University commonly refers to as its chart of accounts. Clemson will use this new blueprint, known as the Foundation Data Mode (FDM), to establish the foundation for Workday@Clemson reporting, security and business processes. The FDM blueprint was developed by the University’s FDM Working Group and selected subject matter advisors.

Within the Clemson landscape, hundreds of Program Team members and campus user group representatives participated in the important work in the Plan Stage. Forty-nine current state discovery sessions helped solidify understanding of the current state across 19 functional areas at Clemson.

“With the completion of the Foundation Data Model blueprint and discovery sessions, we are now working on designing the HR and finance business processes that will underpin how the system will function. We are leveraging our guiding principles as we do this work, being mindful to factor in lessons learned and feedback from Clemson stakeholders,” said Tyler Saas, Workday@Clemson program director and AVP for technology modernization at Clemson.

Mikah Jones, chief business and operations officer for Clemson’s College of Science and a Workday@Clemson Foundation Data Model super user, shared her excitement about the possibilities.

“Workday@Clemson presents us with an amazing opportunity to develop one modern, streamlined system for many of our recurring HR and finance tasks,” said Jones. “Right now, my team uses several different systems, sometimes with two different browsers open at once, just to access what we need. So, we are really looking forward to this new, more efficient ERP system that will serve Clemson for years to come.”

Today, the Workday@Clemson Program Team is focused on the next stage – the Architect and Configure Stage. This stage includes collaborative design sessions and configuration work in which Clemson will leverage the power of the Workday platform to build streamlined HR and finance business processes. These efforts will incorporate the needs of the University and its related organizations and will be significantly influenced by Workday@Clemson Guiding Principles

Workday@Clemson leaders expect the Architect and Configure Stage to continue through August 2025. The Program Team, campus user group members and other Clemson stakeholders will spend this time engaged in a host of activities, such as validating design direction and decisions for the University’s new system – an exciting but intense time of reimagining how Clemson works.
