Tony Wagner, Clemson’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has been named Chief Financial Officer at the University of Utah, effective May 1.

Wagner spent six years at Clemson, working closely with the University’s Executive Leadership Team to develop long-range financial plans and strategies aligning with the University’s vision and goals. During his time on campus, Wagner helped modernize the University’s business systems and helped strengthen the University’s finances creating the strongest bond rating, AA+ from Standard and Poor’s, in the University’s history.  Clemson also has moved forward with more than $1 billion in facilities improvement during Wagner’s tenure.

“Tony’s contributions to Clemson are numerous, and I’m happy for him, Lisa and his family as he takes on this new role,” President Jim Clements said. “The entire team in our Division of Finance and Operations has worked diligently to modernize our operations under Tony’s leadership, and their work will remain instrumental as we position Clemson for success long into the future.”

Clements and his leadership team are reviewing the needs of the University and will share transition plans in the coming weeks.
