University to close at noon Friday; Remote learning and work encouraged

Share:

Due to the forecasted winter weather, Clemson University’s main campus will close at noon on Friday, January 10. Pickens County government offices will close at that time and as a state agency, the University is required to follow the same opening status of its county government.

All classes scheduled to begin after noon are cancelled. Faculty scheduled to conduct classes before noon should move to remote learning options and employees are encouraged to work remotely to the extent possible. Additionally, all events scheduled to take place on main campus are cancelled until noon on Saturday, January 11.

The entire Upstate region is under a Winter Storm Warning. Current weather forecasts indicate the potential for snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice accumulation. Main campus and Upstate locations are forecast to receive 1-2 inches of snow with the potential for up to 0.25 inches of ice accumulation. During winter weather, drive only if it is absolutely necessary. Stay indoors or if you must go outside, dress in warm layers and frequently change any wet clothing. Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.

Statewide Clemson locations

All non-main campus locations should follow the same hazard decisions made by the county government where their office is located. A full list of delays and closings is always available on the South Carolina Emergency Management Division website

Timekeeping and Leave Guidance

Faculty Guidance

Classes that begin before noon should move to remote learning, homework exercises, alternate schedules for research, etc. All classes after noon are canceled. Please direct any questions to your department chair and/or school director.
