Hayes is a former high school placekicker from Charleston, South Carolina, who transferred into Clemson last fall. As the starting fly half for Clemson’s 15s team, he helped the Tigers secure a berth in the quarterfinals of the national championship tournament, their first appearance since 2021. Hayes went on to earn all-tournament acclaim at the National Collegiate All-Star Tournament in January. He led the Southeast Bears’ all-star team to a 3-3 record, with wins in the quarterfinals and third-place game.

Van Rooyen is a graduate international student from South Africa who held the Number 8 position last fall. He transferred to Clemson from Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Van Rooyen also competed in the National Collegiate All-Star event last month, scoring 10 points for the Bears on two successful tries.

Last fall, Clemson earned a No. 3 national ranking during the regular season and finished runner-up in the Southeast Club Rugby Conference (SCRC) — amassing impressive victories over the likes of Georgia, South Carolina and LSU. The spring 7s season is now under way.
