Students present summer CI research at Summer Showcase event

Creative Inquiry

More than 40 projects were presented at the 10th annual Summer Creative Inquiry + Undergraduate Research Showcase in August. The showcase gives students the opportunity to talk about the work they did through the intensive 10-week Summer CI program.

This year’s event featured projects on a variety of topics, such as the genetics of the American chestnut, nanoparticle-based immunotherapy treatments for cancer, AI browser agents and privacy, and neurodiversity in higher education.

Faculty, staff and graduate student judges scored the posters, and the top three were recognized with awards, as well as a popular-vote poster chosen by participants. The winning posters were:

1st place: “Development and Evaluation of an ASTM Tourniquet Testing and Verification Device”
Student author: Will Wangard, biomedical engineering
Faculty mentor: John DesJardins, bioengineering

2nd place: “Diet Variation and Feeding Analysis of the Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) in the Middle Florida Keys”
Student author: Ashley Adams, environmental and natural resources
Faculty mentors: Michael Childress and Camille White, biological sciences

3rd place: “Mechanical Extraction of Modular Sleeves from Retrieved Hip Replacements: Tool Design and Validation”
Student authors: John Bickford, Evan Fitch and Jacob Schwasnick, biomedical engineering. Schwasnick is a student in the Honors College.
Faculty mentor: Melinda Harman, bioengineering

Popular vote winner: “Clemson CubeSat AEGISSatellite-1”
Student authors: Nicholas Kimmel and Rami Roushdie, electrical engineering; Nirval Patel, mechanical engineering
Faculty mentor: Li-Sin The, physics and astronomy
