Over 250 students from 24 schools in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee gathered in the Watt Family Innovation Center on Jan. 26 and 27 for CUhackit2019. Organizers said it was first and largest student-led hackathon in South Carolina to be recognized by Major League Hacking, an internationally recognized organization for student hackathons across North America and Europe.

Organizers said that a hackaton held at Clemson University on Jan. 26 and 27 was the largest ever in South Carolina.

Participants were challenged to “create novel solutions to real problems using hardware or software, while having fun and collaborating,” said the event’s founder and director, Courtney Shearer. “Student teams demonstrated and pitched their projects to Clemson faculty for the opportunity to win awesome prizes.”

Amazon Web Services was the title partner for the event. The company provided $12,000, organized learning sessions for students, and sent seven recruiting and technical representatives to the event, organizers said.
