CLEMSON — Members of Clemson Undergraduate Student Government (CUSG) announced today the establishment of a leadership engagement scholarship program. The scholarship is available to full-time Clemson students who are engaged in leadership opportunities and have demonstrated financial need to allow them to continue student organization engagement.

Members of Clemson Undergraduate Student Government have established a scholarship program for leadership engagement.

“This is a great way for us to pull students in and engage them with leadership opportunities,” said Jacob Livingston, CUSG’s secretary of engagement. “Specifically, it’s great for students who want to be involved but may not have the time and financial resources to do it. It provides for students from all backgrounds, so they can leave a legacy here at Clemson.”

CUSG, under the direction of Student Body President Mason Foley, has partnered with Student Involvement and Leadership, Financial Aid and Athletics to establish stipends ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the recipients’ needs. The scholarship is based on previous leadership experience and the applicant’s intent moving forward.

Applications are open through the end of the day on Monday, March 25. Students can log in through the TigerQuest platform and submit an application, which will be reviewed and awarded for the 2019 fall semester. The winners of the stipends will be confidential.

Livingston said the scholarship program is beneficial to students who work one or more part-time jobs to help pay for textbooks, rent and other living expenses.

“The applicants who are chosen will gain financial security to be able to commit hours toward a student organization they’re passionate about,” said Livingston, a bioengineering senior from Conway, South Carolina. “It’s really a tool of equity to encourage students looking to make an impact and continue building that Clemson Family outward.”
