The Clemson Soccer Operations Complex has received two Green Globes from the Green Building Initiative, a nonprofit organization that manages assessments and certifications related to environmental building practices.

Green Globes are similar to LEED certification of construction projects. Facilities awarded with this certification are recognized for energy conservation, reduced water consumption, responsible use of materials, ecological stewardship and healthy indoor environments for occupants.

The state-of-the-art $8-million-facility was funded by a combination of athletic gifts to IPTAY and revenue bonds repaid by athletic revenue.

Completed in the fall, the Soccer Operations Complex joins a growing list of new construction and renovated buildings on Clemson’s campus that have earned two or more Green Globe certifications, including the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business building, the IPTAY Center, the Snow Family Outdoor Recreational Fitness and Wellness Center and the Indoor Tennis Facility.

Tommi Jones, the University Facilities project manager, is accredited by both the US Green Building Council and the Green Building Initiative. ”I am thrilled our project received two Green Globes within weeks of final completion,” she said. “This achievement demonstrates Clemson University’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.”

Located next to the soccer practice fields, the Soccer Operations Complex provides approximately 13,000 square feet of space for the men’s and women’s programs. The teams share an outdoor patio overlooking the practice field and athletic training room.

“This level of sustainability is an outstanding accomplishment and you can be proud of the design and construction of this facility,” said L.L. “Buddy” Humphries, who recommended the project receive the Green Globes.
