Snow family to match up to $1 million to complete Clemson student recreation center

CLEMSON — David and Lynette Snow of Darien, Connecticut, will match up to $1 million in funds raised through Clemson University’s student affairs advancement staff to complete the intramural field complex on Hartwell Lake. This latest pledge is in addition to the $2.4 million the Snows gave to this project in 2014.

“We are very grateful to the Snow family for their continued support of Clemson,” said President James P. Clements. “The Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center has become such an important part of our campus and their challenge gift will allow us to further develop the center and provide more space for our students to play. Campus recreation is a big part of the Clemson student experience, and this gift will help provide even more opportunities to leading a healthy lifestyle while having fun.”

The Snows, whose daughter Ashley graduated from Clemson in 2015, serve on the vice president’s executive council for student affairs and served on the record-breaking “The Will to Lead” capital campaign committee. David also serves on the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism board. The Snows became the most generous Clemson parents who aren’t alumni in university history with their original gift.

This fundraising challenge money will go toward adding new playing fields, facilities and educational areas to the recreation center.

“Lynette, our whole family and I continue to see how a world-class outdoor wellness and fitness center at Clemson will transform not only intramural activity on campus but have a daily impact on the lives of Clemson students and the surrounding community,” said David Snow. “We hope our gift doesn’t just raise awareness of this campaign, but it inspires everyone to support Clemson. No gift is too small when we are working to enhance and transform the lives of Clemson students.”

Clemson University owns property north and south of its main campus and has access to Hartwell Lake, which runs through the campus. The Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center provides students a place of retreat for physical and mental wellness.

In addition to the intramural fields, the center allows students to enjoy water and beach activities and several student club sports are located there. It also offers the Clemson community amenities to enjoy year-round.
