PRTM announces Ph.D. and M.S. assistantships, graduate recruitment day

Faculty in Clemson’s parks, recreation and tourism management department are currently seeking well-qualified applicants for Ph.D. and M.S. assistantships starting in Fall 2019. These assistantships provide a competitive stipend to on-campus students and include a full tuition wavier.

Most assistantships are for a nine-month academic year and 10-20 hours of work per week. Assistantships are renewable for four academic years for Ph.D. students and two years for M.S. students, contingent upon satisfactory performance. Additional pay is sometimes available during the academic year and summer months to teach and/or work on grant-funded projects.

Well-qualified graduate applicants with interests in PRTM (broadly defined to include allied fields and related disciplines) are encouraged to visit campus and apply to the graduate program. A graduate recruitment day is being held on Friday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on campus. During this day, prospective students will meet with faculty, staff and current graduate students; tour the campus; and attend a graduate seminar. Ph.D. applicants will make a brief 15-minute presentation regarding their background, career aspirations and research, teaching and professional interests.

Prospective graduate students interested in visiting campus should email Mrs. Sabrina McCall (sabrina@clemson.edu) by Oct. 22 a CV, writing sample and a list of between one and four PRTM faculty who might serve as their dissertation/thesis advisor. Once this is received, you will be sent a formal invitation to attend the graduate recruitment day with additional details to support your visit. Prospective graduate students are also strongly encouraged to email and begin corresponding with one or more PRTM faculty in advance of visiting campus and/or applying. Clemson’s parks, recreation and tourism management department is one of the oldest and largest programs of its type in the country, consisting of approximately 500 undergraduate and 160 graduate students. In total, the department has over 40 faculty members. A Ph.D. from Clemson’s parks, recreation and tourism management department prepares students to conduct research, teach or work at an advanced level for universities as well as governmental and not-for-profit agencies and organizations. The M.S. is designed for people planning to undertake doctoral study or research-related positions in their chosen profession.
