Office of Human Resources update: Required changes due to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)  


Clemson University’s Office of Human Resources (OHR) has been monitoring and preparing for changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) since the Department of Labor (DOL) proposed new overtime rules in August 2023. 

On April 23, 2024, the DOL released its final rule, which includes two increases to the minimum salary threshold for overtime exemption. 

This DOL ruling includes two deadlines for implementation: July 1, 2024, and January 1, 2025. 

Employees and supervisors should not take any action at this time. The Office of Human Resources will provide clear and specific guidance to all employees and supervisors in the coming weeks and months. 

Special Note: Teachers and, in a University setting, faculty are generally exempt from this minimum salary threshold because they meet the “professional duty” requirement.
