Nine outstanding faculty members from the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences were honored in an Oct. 28 ceremony attended by the college’s department chairs and top administrators.
The honorees were Fadi Abdeljawad, Nicole Martinez, Rajendra Bordia, Ardalan Vahidi, Beshah Ayalew, Yunyi Jia, Tim DeVol, Jennifer Ogle and Suyi Li.
The awards ceremony is an annual event in the college, this year held online to promote social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Byars Prize for Excellence in Teaching Engineering Fundamentals
2020 winner: Fadi Abdeljawad, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering
About the award: Recognizes excellence in teaching engineering fundamentals.
Murray Stokely Award
2020 winner: Nicole Martinez, an associate professor of environmental engineering and Earth Sciences
About the award: Given to a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching engineering at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
McQueen Quattlebaum Faculty Achievement Award
2020 winner: Rajendra Bordia, the George J. Bishop, III Endowed Chair in Ceramic and Materials Engineering.
About the award: Recognizes faculty accomplishments in the preceding year and distinctions and awards over the past three years.
Collaboration Award
2020 winners: Ardalan Vahidi, professor of mechanical engineering; Beshah Ayalew, professor of automotive engineering; and Yunyi Jia, McQueen Quattlebaum Assistant Professor of Automotive Engineering
About the award: Recognizes a team of two or more faculty who have demonstrated exemplary and synergistic collaboration in research and/or teaching which has made notable contributions to the college.
Mentoring Award
2020 winner: Tim DeVol, the Toshiba Professor of Nuclear Engineering
About the award: Honors a faculty member who goes above and beyond in enriching the faculty and student Clemson experience.
Esin Gulari Leadership and Service Award
2020 winner: Jennifer Ogle, a professor and associate chair in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering
About the award: Recognizes college faculty who undertake leadership and service roles that require selfless commitment of time and effort.
Junior Researcher of the Year
2020 winner: Suyi Li, assistant professor of mechanical engineering
About the award: Recognizes the efforts of high-achieving faculty whose work is improving society through the generation and dissemination of new knowledge.
