Human Resources society again cites Clemson chapter’s excellence

The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) has awarded the Clemson University Chapter its Superior Merit Award, the highest achievable bestowed by the worldwide human resources professional society.

This marks the third straight year the Clemson Chapter, based in the College of Business’ Department of Management, has achieved SHRM’S top award, which recognizes outstanding activities and projects by collegiate chapters. Student chapters are cited for the society’s top award based on chapter operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM engagement.

“I am very proud of these students. They worked hard throughout the year to provide quality programs for fellow students interested in pursuing careers in human resources, including scheduling H.R. professionals to speak during our meetings,” said Kathy Clark, Department of Management senior lecturer and

faculty adviser for the Clemson Chapter.

“One of the highlights of the year was the annual professional shadowing program held in conjunction with the Greenville, S.C., Chapter of SHRM. Members of the Greenville chapter continue to provide invaluable support to our student chapter,” she added.

Clemson Chapter leadership team members for the 2019-20 academic year included, Emily Dozier, president; Lane Tillman, vice president; Tyrek Gamble, treasurer; Antavius Farr-Heyward, communications; Sarah Carulli, secretary.

“Today’s members of our student chapters are the H.R. leaders of tomorrow. They are the movers and shakers of the future, and we cannot understate the vital role they play in SHRM’s success,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM president and CEO. “The Clemson Chapter is evidence that the future of H.R. is, indeed, in good hands. I applaud their accomplishments and ability to fiercely move forward during a time of such change and uncertainty in the workplace.”

SHRM student chapters have the opportunity to earn an award based on the number of activities they complete during the merit award cycle, the most recent one of which lasted from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020.
