Tupy’s lecture, “Our Miraculous Flourishing: Why Pessimism Persists in the Face of Prosperity,” will be delivered at 5:30 p.m., in 100 Lowry Hall, followed by a Q&A session. Admission is open to the public and free, as is pizza to the first 100 students. To register for the event, click here.

The editor of HumanProgress.org, Tupy specializes in globalization and global well-being. His articles have been published in the Financial Times, Washington, Post, Wall Street Journal and many other leading publications. He has also appeared on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, CNN, BBC, and numerous other media outlets.

“Marian Tupy is a compelling voice of optimism among the chorus of alarmists and doomsayers. And, what’s best, his optimism is grounded in objective fact,” said Reed Watson, director of The Hayek Center for the Business of Prosperity, and a professor of practice in the John E. Walker Department of Economics in the College of Business.

The Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity promotes a better understanding of the benefits of market-liberal policy solutions in addressing problems faced by developing nations. The center seeks to advance policies that protect human rights, personal choice and the role of economic freedom in ending world poverty.

In the spirit and execution of Thomas Green Clemson’s will, The Hayek Center for the Business of Prosperity is a physical and intellectual hub of academic scholarship and undergraduate education that explores the role of business in generating societal good.
