Jeffrey Hallo, Ph.D., has been named associate dean for academic policy and program effectiveness at the Graduate School, a position vacated when Brian Dominy, Ph.D., was named Clemson’s associate dean for undergraduate engagement and curriculum development earlier this year.
Hallo will lead the policy and procedure review program to ensure that Graduate School policies and procedures support inclusive excellence, student health and wellness, and faculty/staff workload balance. He will also lead the graduate academic program self-reviews (GAPS) to support graduate faculty in their continuous improvement of all graduate degree and certificate programs at Clemson.
“Working with graduate students and programs has been an important and fulfilling focus of my work at Clemson,” says Hallo. “I am very excited about this opportunity to work in the Graduate School and with programs across the University to further improve policies, educational outcomes, and graduate student experiences.”
Hallo is a professor in the University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) and served as the PRTM graduate program coordinator. His research and teaching are focused on understanding, planning for, and managing visitor use in parks, forests, and other protected areas. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, books, and book chapters on these topics. He has been interviewed as an expert for news articles appearing in The Washington Post, National Geographic, Delta Sky Magazine, and WalletHub. He released his first children’s book titled Rosy Ralph Visits His National Parks in 2016. His graduate student mentoring and scientific journal scholarship have garnered University awards. Earlier this year, he was elected as a Fellow of The Academy of Leisure Science. Hearned his M.S. in technical (project) management from Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in natural resources from the University of Vermont.
