Misty Stewart will join the staff of the Graduate School as director of student success on December 3.

In this role, Stewart will work directly with Dr. David Fleming, associate dean, along with students, faculty, staff and the Graduate School leadership team to enhance measures of student success for graduate students at Clemson. She will be evaluating current practices concerning student onboarding, engagement and support, and developing strategic programming based on institutional data and emerging trends and benchmarks.

Stewart has worked extensively in graduate education since 2012 as the Coordinator of Recruitment for the Graduate College at Missouri State University. Her responsibilities included focusing on marketing and recruitment efforts of 100+ programs, being a graduate assistantship supervisor and serving as graduate student senate advisor. She also implemented new programming to entice students to return to graduate school to finish their degrees through collaborative efforts with graduate faculty and program directors.

Additionally, Stewart has 15 years of experience in higher education in faculty, administrative and advising appointments. Currently she is working on completing her doctorate degree in higher education and organizational change.

Her research interests include blended learning, student success, prior learning assessments, the use of technology to enhance learning experiences and relationships between student affairs and academic affairs.

“Student success is much more than passing a class. It is a cumulative experience that begins at the inquiry stage and advances. I am excited to learn from the students, faculty and staff at Clemson, and to work together to eliminate barriers and help our graduate students succeed,” says Stewart.
