Clemson University’s Division of Inclusion and Equity finalized the fall session offerings for the Strategic Inclusive Excellence Certificate (SIEC). Faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to attain the certificate to help develop the skills needed to advance equity, diversity and inclusion at Clemson.
“More than 200 Clemson staff, faculty and graduate students have engaged in the Strategic Inclusive Excellence Certificate program since its inception in fall 2019,” said Kendra Stewart-Tillman, assistant vice president for diversity education and executive director of the Harvey and Lucinda Gantt Multicultural Center. “The workshops offered as part of the certificate have helped connect members from across campus to one another and engage in skill-building for embedding equity, diversity and inclusion in all facets of the campus experience.”
The first 23 individuals to finish the cerfiticate program completed their Capstone Campus Action Projects this summer. These projects ranged from providing specified intercultural competence training to their home departments; reviewing departmental websites, trainings and forms for inclusive language, imagery and accessibility; developing a discipline-specific podcast related to diversity, equity and inclusion; reviewing how many fees beyond tuition students encounter within a specific major that prevent equitable access to professional opportunities; and so much more. All of these projects had the goal of making small but significant changes that add up to make Clemson University a more inclusive place.
