Daniel L. Noneaker named associate dean for research in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences

Daniel L. Noneaker will soon begin serving as the new associate dean for research in Clemson University’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. 

Noneaker’s appointment follows a search led by Brian Powell, chair of the Associate Dean for Research Search Committee. 

Noneaker joined Clemson in 1993 as an assistant professor and rose through the ranks to become chair of the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2014.

The department’s research expenditures grew from $5.5 million to $9.7 million during his tenure as department chair. He oversaw the hiring of 15 faculty members, including two for named professorships and two for endowed chairs.

Noneaker’s appointment as associate dean takes effect March 16.

Robert Jones, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, said Noneaker’s appointment will help accelerate Clemson’s pursuit of preeminence among the nation’s research universities.

“Dr. Noneaker brings a breadth of experience in conducting research, implementing new programs and bringing together teams of diverse talent,” Jones said. “Clemson has a strong research program, and Dr. Noneaker will help ensure our ongoing success.”

Anand Gramopadhye, the college’s dean, welcomed Noneaker to his new job.

“I look forward to working with Dr. Noneaker in his new role, as we position the college and University research enterprise for strength and impact into the future,” Gramopadhye said. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Powell and the members of  the search committee for their service to the college.”

Tanju Karanfil, the University’s vice president for research, said that he fully supports Noneaker’s appointment to associate dean for research.

“As a department chair and accomplished researcher, Dr. Noneaker brings considerable experience to the job,” Karanfil said. “He is well positioned to lead faculty, students and staff, as we continuously improve our research quality, quantity and impact.”

Noneaker received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993.

His chief research interest is in mobile wireless communications systems. Noneaker received the 2008 Fred W. Ellersick Military Communications Award at the IEEE Military Communications Conference.
