CLEMSON — Clemson University continues to be recognized as one of the top public universities in the country, coming in at No. 27 in the 2020 U.S. News & World Report ranking of 381 overall national universities.

Among key metrics released by the U.S. News & World Report, Clemson’s graduation rates and freshmen retention rates remain in the top 25 among public universities, far exceeding the national averages and remain at historical highs for the university.

Additionally, Clemson’s alumni are among the most engaged in the nation. The percentage of Clemson alumni who financially support the university ranks second among public universities, and contributes to the continued strong growth in fundraising, which reached a record $177 million in fiscal year 2019. The generosity of Clemson alumni and friends helps more than half of all Clemson undergraduate students to graduate debt free.

“Clemson is the preeminent university in the State of South Carolina, and it’s always great to be recognized by outside organizations for our achievements – including this recognition by the U.S. News & World Report,” Executive Vice President and Provost Bob Jones said. “Our continued commitment as a university remains to the lifelong development of our students, and the quality of the education and opportunities our students are afforded.”

Other metrics included in the U.S. News & World Report show Clemson students enjoy a supportive academic environment characterized by small class sizes, as more than half of all classes include fewer than 20 students.

Clemson’s work on behalf of students also continues to be recognized by its university peers. In addition to receiving our highest overall peer assessment ever, Clemson’s commitment to providing student internships/co-ops, as well as to student learning communities, were selected among the top 15 in the country by our university peers.

Clemson also received high marks for its innovative approach to higher education, being ranked the 17thmost innovative university in the country.
