Clemson University again is recognized as one of the top public universities in the country in the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
Clemson is ranked No. 29 among national public universities owed in part to strong graduation and first-year student retention rates, which exceed national averages.
The University continues to see strong applications from first year students and increases in first year enrollment year-over-year. Of those first-year students, Clemson ranks highly in ACT and SAT test scores, landing in the top 30 for standardized test scores of all national public universities. Clemson is also bucking higher education trends when it comes to 6-year graduation rates. In 2020, 82.5 percent of students graduated in six years, beating the current national average of 62 percent.
“The Clemson degree remains strong. Through our vigorous programs, students are prepared for what comes next, whether it’s entering the job force or pursuing advanced education,” said Robert Jones, executive vice president for Academic Affairs and provost. “Even during challenging times such as these we remain focused on providing the best educational opportunities and support for our students.”
U.S. News noted Clemson’s strong alumni engagement and financial support, ranking Clemson second among all public universities for alumni participation rate. In 2020 Clemson’s alumni and friends gave $158.5 million back to the University, supporting faculty fellowships, endowments and student scholarships.
Clemson’s support for students was recognized, including its internship and co-op programs, ranking 17th among all schools. Clemson is also recognized for its student-faculty ratio of 16:1.
