CLEMSON — Clemson University’s School of Architecture has been named one of “America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools” by DesignIntelligence. For the seventh consecutive year, the Master of Architecture is ranked one of the top 10 accredited architecture graduate programs at a public university.

DesignIntelligence’s annual survey also ranked the Master of Architecture (22) and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (18) as two of the “Most Admired” programs in the country at a private or public institution. Additionally, the Master of Architecture program was recognized on three of DesignIntelligence’s 12 focus area lists for Practice Management (6), Healthy Built Environments (10) and Project Planning and Management (10).

“We are honored that our programs are consistently ranked as some of the most-admired accredited design programs in the country,” said Kate Schwennsen, professor and director of Clemson University’s School of Architecture. “Thank you to our university administration for their support of our programs, and thank you to our faculty, students and alumni for their remarkable accomplishments.

“There is a strength and longevity of ambition and excellence in this school of Southern roots and global reach; a permanent ethos of thinking critically and globally while acting and making locally; and a culture that prides itself on inclusivity, collegiality, accountability and connectivity,” she said.

To comprise this year’s rankings, DesignIntelligence surveyed more than 6,000 hiring professionals from companies and organizations around the country that employ architects, designers and landscape architects.

According to DesignIntelligence, these professionals provide feedback on the “schools they most admire, the ones they hire from the most and how recent graduates are performing in 12 key focus areas, such as design theory and practice, design technology and communication skill.”

Architecture has been taught at Clemson University for more than a century. The school’s mission is to be a premier producer of transformational design and preservation leadership, shaping the environment of the 21st century for a better future.

Lee III is the 55,000-square-foot addition to Clemson’s Lee Hall. The building houses the School of Architecture, Department of Art, Department of Construction Science and Management, and the Ph.D. in Planning, Design and the Built Environment. In 2012, Lee III was awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
