Clemson Libraries names new library resident

Share:

Clemson Libraries has named Tomeka Jackson as library resident. Jackson served at Kennesaw State University Library where she was a cataloging and metadata assistant.

The library residents program provides opportunities for early-career librarians from underrepresented populations with the opportunity to gain experience in an academic library at an R-1 institution.

Jackson has worked at Kennesaw State since 2018. Prior to that, she held positions at the Smyrna Public Library in Smyrna, Ga., and the Cobb County Public Library in Marietta, Ga. She also worked as a project archivist for the Atlanta History Center and volunteered at the Delta Flight Museum in Hapeville, Ga. She was named an Emerging Leader by the American Library Association in 2022.

Jackson earned her master’s in library and information science from the University of South Carolina as well as a master’s in heritage preservation and a bachelor’s in history, both from Georgia State University.

“I am proud that we are able to offer this residency to provide opportunities and experience to new librarians and to help bring more diversity to the field of librarianship,” said Clemson Libraries Dean Chris Cox. “Tomeka is a rising star in the field and will be a great addition to the Clemson Libraries family. We are excited to have her join us.”

The library residents program is part of Clemson Libraries’ commitment to increasing diversity in the hiring pipeline of qualified librarians as a member of the Association of College and Research Libraries Diversity Alliance. The residency is a three-year position in which Jackson will be able to experience multiple areas of librarianship, including opportunities for research and other scholarly activities.
