Clemson University has been named to the “Best for Vets: 2024 Colleges” — a list compiled by Military Times — for a second straight year. Clemson made a significant leap in this year’s ranking, moving from 149th in 2023 to 51st among more than 300 recognized colleges and universities.
“This is the second year in a row we’ve been named to the Military Times ‘Best for Vets’ list showcasing our dedication to supporting the military community at Clemson,” says Emily DaBruzzi, director of the Office of Military & Veteran Engagement. “I’m incredibly proud of our progress; moving up 98 spots on the ranking list in a year’s time is a true accomplishment. Our team is committed to continuous improvement and providing the No. 1 student experience to service members, veterans, military family members and ROTC cadets at Clemson.”
Military Times magazine is one of the nation’s most trusted sources for independent news and information for service members and families. The annual survey serves as the culmination of results collected from across the country, from R1 research universities to public and private schools. Military Times comprehensively looks at student success metrics (retention, graduation, GPA), military-specific resources, admissions and registration policies, human resources and other factors in determining its national rankings.
Some of Clemson’s recent enhancements to provide exceptional support of military-connected students include:
- Adding three full-time staff members, including an executive director for military affairs
- Opening a second resource area on the third floor of Hendrix Student Center, which includes expanded lounge space, four staff offices and a partnership hub for campus associates (CAPS counselor, VA Educational Benefits, etc)
- Hosting United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough for a student veteran roundtable in February, resulting in a claims clinic for University and community veterans
- Increasing membership in the Student Veterans Association by 39% over FY23, making it the largest military student organization at Clemson with 82 members
Clemson has earned acclaim for its support of the now more than 1,400 veterans and military-connected students over the past two years. In the spring, Clemson was ranked No. 7 nationally among Tier 1 research institutions as a Military Friendly® School and Military Spouse Friendly® School. Additionally, Clemson’s military academic program earned a certificate of silver grade from the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs. This fall, Clemson again received gold recognition as a Military Friendly® Employer.
