CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson University animal and veterinary science doctoral student, Jenny Presgraves, was one of six North American participants to lead an invitational discussion forum at the Farm Foundation Round Table in San Mateo, CA in January.
The Farm Foundation Round Table meets twice annually to provide a forum for discussion and interaction among members and invited government, academic, agribusiness and other interest group leaders.
“To help nurture the next generation of industry leaders, the Round Table hosts six university students at each Round Table meeting,” said the Farm Foundation. “Cultivators are selected from a competitive pool of applicants from accredited North American colleges or universities. Students are nominated by their college dean or department head. Each Cultivator is assigned a Round Table host, who serves as a mentor during the meeting. Cultivators are expected to participate in all aspects of the meeting, as well as present a poster of a key aspect of their studies.”
Presgraves was invited to speak to the entire conference about her passion for agriculture policy and her research, titled “Insulin-like Factor 3: Predictor of Fetal Sex in Dairy Cattle.”
“The Roundtable is a closed session, not open to the public or the media, so that these industry leaders can be completely frank and open to new ideas,” said Presgraves. “I had amazing access to the heads of multinational companies and large-scale farm owners and operators to pick their brains and share my ideas about the American food system.”
Presgraves also had the opportunity to participate alongside leaders in the agriculture industry through detailed tours of local biotech companies, informational meetings, and all meals.
“I am incredibly grateful to the Farm Foundation and CAFLS for the opportunity to participate in the Cultivator program,” said Presgraves.
