Clemson College of Education embarks on third ‘Listen and Learn’ tour across SC

In early February, our college embarked on its third Listen & Learn tour! We visited Luke Clamp, National High School Principal of the Year, at River Bluff High School, and learned about the school’s innovative approach to education. We ventured to Lake City, SC, and met with Florence 1 Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley.

We met with our college’s principle donor, Darla Moore, and presented her with the first Distinguished Friend of the College Award. We visited the Continuum Center, a regional center for education and training in workforce development in Lake City.

We traveled to Columbia and met with State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman. Our founding dean, George Petersen, presented our college’s innovative programs to the state board of education and we joined in the celebration of 20 years of Call Me MISTER. On the final leg of the tour, we met with Chairlady Rita Allison of Education and Public Works and
Pierce Mc Nairobi, Esq., director of research in education and public works.

Petersen met with Melanie Barton, education director to the Governor’s Office, to discuss current educational legislation. We visited McCormick County Schools to hear from Superintendent Betty Bagley. It was quite a bit to fit into three days, but this experience proved invaluable to our college as we learned how we might best continue serving the entire state of South Carolina.
