Clemson University’s top priority is the safety of its students, faculty, staff and visitors. September is designated as Campus Safety Month, providing an opportunity to highlight the safety resources available to the University community and different programs and services that Clemson University Public Safety offers.

Sign up for CU Alerts and download Rave Guardian
Being prepared to respond to incidents involving acts of violence or threats is critically important for the campus community. Ensuring that you receive timely and accurate information when action is needed is essential.

  • Sign up for emergency notifications, known as CU Alerts. This system is only used for emergency notifications, and you will only receive messages in the event of an emergency.
  • Download the Rave Guardian app. Rave Guardian provides several useful features designed to help keep you safe on campus, including the Text CU Dispatch feature, which allows you to message directly with 911 Dispatchers.
  • Text-to-911 is available on main campus, as well as in the City of Clemson. While calling is still the best option if you can, anyone can text 911 while on main campus to report an emergency to Clemson University dispatchers.

If you see something, say something
Be vigilant and report any suspicious circumstances and behaviors to someone who can assess the situation. Contact the Clemson University Police Department or any campus authority if you see activities that raise concerns. Public Safety works with campus partners to collaboratively prevent adverse actions before they happen, rather than simply responding should they occur.

Be prepared and trained with Run, Hide, Fight and Stop the Bleed
Understand how to take an active role in your safety during an active threat or targeted violence situation.

  • Be familiar with the principles of Run, Hide, Fight and Stop the Bleed. These actions will assist you and allow you to assist others should an active threat situation occur on campus or in the surrounding community. Visit the Active Threat Preparedness section of the CUPD website to learn more about Run, Hide, Fight and how you can prepare for an active threat situation.
  • CUPD offers in-person Run, Hide, Fight training to students, faculty and staff, as well as Stop the Bleed, in collaboration with the Clemson University Fire & EMS Department. To request training on Run, Hide, Fight, Stop the Bleed or other educational programs offered by CUPD, visit the Training and Outreach Request page.
  • Lockdown buttons are also installed in classrooms throughout main campus. These devices, which should only be used in an active threat situation, deactivate card access to the classroom and notify Public Safety officials of the lockdown.
