American University names Bridget Trogden new Dean of Undergraduate Education and Academic Student Services

Associate Dean of Engagement and General Education Bridget Trogden has accepted a new position as Dean of Undergraduate Education and Academic Student Services at American University in Washington, D.C. Trogden begins her new position at American University on July 1, 2023, and will hold tenure as professor in the School of Education.

In her new role, Trogden will lead the undergraduate programs and functions within Academic Affairs, including the undergraduate general education curriculum, first-year advising, Honors and Scholars Programs, learning communities and academic support and access centers. American University serves approximately 7,600 degree-seeking undergraduate students across six schools and colleges. 

Trogden will be a member of the Deans’ Council and President’s Council, and she will work collaboratively on the goals of the American University strategic plan Changemakers for a Changing World.

At Clemson as associate dean in the Division of Undergraduate Studies for the past six years, Trogden focused on bringing about changes connected to ClemsonForward, especially in undergraduate general education, engaged learning and improvements in curriculum and pedagogy. During her time at Clemson, she was promoted to professor of engineering and science education and garnered external funding in excess of $15M dollars in grant money focused on undergraduate education innovations. She also published 14 peer-reviewed papers and was a frequent speaker and consultant on higher education and pedagogical design for other institutions and non-profits worldwide.
