Office of the President; OUR Clemson

A Message from the President: Welcome Back!

Dear Clemson Family,

Welcome to the start of a new academic year! Our campuses are bustling once again. From move-in for many of our students last week to kicking off our fall sports season with our Women’s Soccer team taking on the University of South Carolina at Riggs Field, Clemson is filled with Tigers from across the State, the nation and beyond.

Classes begin on Wednesday, and I know our students, faculty and staff are looking forward to an amazing semester and academic year. Whether you are on the main campus, an innovation campus or studying abroad, I hope you have an outstanding semester.

As Beth and I shared in our Welcome Back Message, we want to make sure all of our Tigers thrive. So, work hard, have fun, and please make sure you look out for each other. Together, we are continuing to elevate the Clemson experience and create an even brighter Clemson for the future.

Since the end of our previous academic year in May, we had several wonderful events and announcements that I want to take a moment to share with you.

Earlier this month, we held our summer graduation and Ph.D. hooding ceremonies. A total of 412 students received their bachelor’s degrees, 531 students received their master’s or education specialist degrees, and 97 students were awarded doctoral degrees. These new graduates bring the total number of Clemson alumni living around the world to approximately 181,000.

In June, the Board of Trustees officially approved the development of the state of South Carolina’s first College of Veterinary Medicine. And in July, the Board of Trustees approved Dr. Steven Marks to serve as the founding dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition, the Board of Trustees also approved a tuition freeze for both in-state and out-of-state students for this fiscal year, approved the University budget for fiscal year 2024 and provided approval to numerous facilities projects.

Also this summer, we broke ground on our Advanced Materials Innovation Complex which will combine education and research opportunities for many of our students, faculty and staff and will shape the future of advance materials. We also began renovations to our Bryan Mall residence halls to ensure we are providing our students with functional spaces that will enrich their Clemson experience.

Clemson University is a leader in higher education and our community continues to elevate what it means to be a Clemson Tiger. The value of the Tiger Paw has never been higher. And together, we will continue to build upon our successes and create new opportunities for even greater achievements in the future.

Best wishes for an incredible academic year.

Go Tigers!
