Clemson STRIDE announces new programs

Dear Clemson Family,

Clemson STRIDE programs are coming to campus! We want to tell you a little about them and would love to hear from you. Please fill out this interest form if you are.

Clemson STRIDE is sponsored by a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for Accelerating Research Translation (ART) at Clemson University. Clemson was one of 18 universities receiving this inaugural award to expand their research translation capacity by investing in activities essential to move research results to practice.

Aligned with Clemson Elevate and NSF ART goals, Clemson STRIDE will:

Expand capacity and infrastructure for research translation at Clemson;

Provide training programs for faculty, post-docs and, graduate and undergraduate students;

Strengthen the campus culture and environment to encourage, support, and celebrate research translation.

Following the award, the Clemson STRIDE kickoff meeting took place on April 11 at the Watt Family Innovation Center, announcing plans to roll out a series of training programs and its funding program in fall 2024. The training programs include:

The ART Academy – Designed for faculty members, with post-docs and graduate students on their teams, this initiative will be a 5-month program (meeting twice per month ) to help them bootstrap their roadmaps towards research translation. (Contact: Dr. Shelia Cotten, scotten@clemson.edu)

ART for graduate students –Graduate students will receive training to be effective drivers in research translation efforts through GRAD 360º, Accelerate2Industry, and the Graduate Center for Transformational Mentorship. ART for undergraduate students – A new Creative Inquiry team, dubbed Watt Innovate, will be launched to prepare undergraduate students as future pioneers in research translation. (Contact: Dr. Barbara Speziale, bjspz@clemson.edu)

Faculty members interested in applying for Clemson STRIDE seed projects in the fall are strongly encouraged to apply to the ART Academy. Graduate and undergraduate students interested in either supporting Clemson professors in research translation projects, or potential internships in research-translation support, or shaping their career paths with research translation in mind, are encouraged to participate in one or all of these offerings.
