The South Carolina Botanical Garden staff and University Facilities partnered to ensure the planned widening of Perimeter Road would not have a negative lasting impact on the garden.

The Perimeter Road project will enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic flow and includes significant stormwater management improvements that will protect the Garden from road runoff. There also will be a new traffic signal at the Garden entrance.

Shannon Barrett, interim director of the Garden, applauds the partnership with University Facilities, citing the need for the widening of Perimeter Road as a community project. In a message to Friends of the Garden Barrett said, “The University, along with our team at the Garden, has been planning for this project for several years.” Barrett thanked the Friends of the Garden in advance for their patience.

The construction is not expected to affect the Garden’s Spring Plant Sale this weekend.
