University updates staff performance management policy; revises rating definitions for clarity

Share:

Effective July 1, 2024, the Clemson University staff performance management policy will be revised to allow for better alignment with the state performance management model policy and to provide better clarity for applicable staff members.

Many of these changes align University policy with current practices.

A summary of the policy changes is listed below. Staff members should review the new policy to familiarize themselves with the changes.

  • All supervisors (raters) will be evaluated on the timely completion of their direct report’s performance evaluations.
  • Employee performance evaluations will constitute a permanent part of the employee’s official personnel file.
  • Supervisors are to be rated on the competency of “Supervision and Management.”
  • If an employee has a probationary or trial status evaluation due and completed within 90 days of their division/college’s established review date, it will satisfy the annual review requirement.

The University also updated the Procedures and Guidance document, which provides further clarity on the six performance ratings for staff members.

Faculty and staff can find more information regarding staff performance management on the Office of Human Resources performance management webpage.
