Summer updates on campus projects: What you need to know for Fall 2024

University Facilities and its partners have been busy this summer, making upgrades to buildings, landscapes and roads across main campus.

Completed Building and Traffic Projects  

Byrnes Hall renovation

Renovations to Byrnes Hall, the first building in the $155 million Bryan Mall High Rise Renovations project, were completed this summer. Work included improvements to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as accessibility and living space enhancements. 

Research District utilities upgrade (Cherry Road) 

Underground utilities to support the Research District buildings (new Forestry and Environmental Conservation building, Poole Agricultural Center, Life Sciences Building and the Biosystems Research Complex) were installed beneath Cherry Road over the summer.  

R-4 Lot opening prior to first football game  

The R-4 Lot next to the C-1 expansion will open by the first home football game on September 6. The expansion will create 85 additional parking spaces and add a connection point to the C-1 Lot.   

C2-A Lot permanent closure  

The C2-A commuter parking lot located on Williamson Road near Highway 93 has been permanently closed to accommodate the West Campus Energy Plant expansion. This expansion will increase chilled water capacity and support future campus growth, and commuter parking across main campus has been expanded to the new C-4 Lot next to the Clemson University Fire Department, as well as additional spaces on Nu Street.  

Kite Hill/R1 Expansion Lot

University Facilities

The Kite Hill/R-1 expansion lot will be open this week. The lot provides a total of 439 new parking spaces for East Resident students.

Hunter Hall renovation 

Hunter Hall room 145 was renovated, adding two projector screens and audio-visual equipment. 

Other projects completed: 

  • Repaving of McGregor Road, Old Stadium Road, Avenue of Champions, and Kappa Street 
  • Multiple covered bus stop shelters installed across campus  
  • South Carolina Botanical Gardens security fencing installed 

Ongoing Building Projects 

Demolition of Johnstone Hall, Harcombe Hall and the Union 

Johnstone Hall, Harcombe Hall and the Edgar A. Brown University Union were demolished over the summer. Crews are removing structural debris in preparation to convert the area to multi-functional green spaces. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2025. Poole Agricultural Center accessible entryway  

A new entrance to the Poole Agricultural Center will be completed in mid-September. The new entry design will provide an ADA accessible pathway between Barre Hall and McAdams Hall, promote ease of circulation for building occupants and install a new canopy over the front doors. The stepped stone wall will also retain the soil from the walkway without disrupting the delicate tree root system along the path. 

Manning Hall Renovation 

The second phase of the Bryan Mall High Rise Renovations Project, Manning Hall will undergo renovations this year and is expected to open in Fall 2025. 

Hendrix Student Center and Fike Recreation Center roof replacements 

Roof replacements to Hendrix Student Center and the Fike Recreation Center will take several more months. 

Jervey Athletic Center Renovation and Performance and Wellness Center addition

Clemson Athletics

Phase one of the Jervey Athletic Center renovation is complete. Clemson volleyball will host its first match in the newly renovated space on September 19. Phase two is scheduled for completion in April 2025. 

Tillman Hall Memorial Auditorium renovation

Renovation of the Tillman Hall Memorial Auditorium continues and is scheduled for completion in March 2025. 

Advanced Materials Innovation Complex (AMIC)  

Construction on the AMIC building is progressing and is slated for completion in October 2025. 

Forestry and Environmental Conservation building 

Construction began earlier this year and is scheduled for completion in early 2026. The project includes a Reforestation Area and the planting of more than 130 new trees. 

College of Veterinary Medicine 

Construction of South Carolina’s first College of Veterinary Medicine began in March of 2024 and is projected to be completed in the fall of 2026. 

Alumni and Visitors Center 

University Facilities

Construction on the Alumni and Visitors Center is progressing and is slated for completion in November, with a phased move-in beginning in early 2025.
