Editor’s note: This is the latest installment of the “Student Affairs Talk” podcast for 2019-20. This week’s featured guest is Ty Robinson, president of the Student Veterans Association at Clemson.

Ty Robinson accepts the Student Affairs "Rising Star" award in the spring of 2019 from Vice President Almeda Jacks
Robinson, pictured with Vice President Almeda Jacks, was one of the recipients of the Student Affairs “Rising Star” award in 2019.

Ty Robinson wasn’t quite ready for the Clemson Experience, so he opted for a stint in the military instead. After spending a year at Clemson, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was an engineering technician during four years of active duty. He returned to Clemson in 2017 and was a work-study assistant through the VA program in the Student Veteran Center. He saw the center transition from its small former space in Tillman Hall to a more dynamic, inviting space in Vickery Hall.

In 2018, Robinson was named one of the outstanding student veterans (along with Victoria Graham) for the fall semester. He followed in the spring of 2019 by being named one of the recipients of the Student Affairs “Rising Star” award. Earlier this year, he assumed the role of president from Ashley Johnson within the Student Veterans Association (SVA).

In the podcast, he discussed his experiences from the first time he enrolled at Clemson, his time in the military, the leadership he receives on a daily basis from Director of Military and Veteran Engagement Brennan Beck, as well as his goals for moving the SVA forward.
