Dr. Tajuan Sellars is the new Director of Admissions and Student Services for the CVM. With an extensive background in academic and student affairs, Dr. Sellars brings a wealth of experience in student engagement, leadership, housing and residence life, and admissions and recruitment.
“I have spent all of my professional career in higher education professional program admissions and student affairs, and I am passionate about helping students achieve their goals, learn to advocate for themselves, and be accountable for their actions,” said Sellars. “Clemson University has a long-standing reputation for excellence in education, and I look forward to being a part of an organization and community that carries such a high level of prestige within the higher education space. Having served in veterinary admissions for over eight years, I am drawn to the opportunity to continue shaping the future of veterinary medicine by recruiting and supporting aspiring veterinarians. Clemson University’s commitment to student success and community engagement, coupled with the amazing people that I have had the opportunity to work with so far will likely keep me here for some time.”
In addition to his leadership role at Clemson, Dr. Sellars serves as Chair of the Admissions and Recruitment Committee (ARC) for the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), further solidifying his expertise in guiding future veterinarians. As he steps into this pivotal position, Dr. Sellars will play a crucial role in shaping South Carolina’s first Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, designed to train veterinarians committed to serving the state.
“My goal is to build Clemson University’s CVM’s recruitment and admissions strategies to ensure we are identifying and supporting the most promising future veterinarians. I plan to leverage my experience in admissions and student services to create innovative outreach efforts, build relationships with pre-vet advisors and organizations, and ensure a seamless and supportive admissions process. Additionally, I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment by advocating for policies and programs that support our students in veterinary medicine.”
A native of Burlington, NC, Dr. Sellars holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville, and a Ph.D. in Adult Education from Auburn University.
“I am most excited about the opportunity to enhance recruitment strategies and further engage with prospective students, particularly those who are now at a place to see themselves as veterinarians. Veterinary medicine, like many health professions, faces challenges in accessibility and awareness, and I look forward to implementing initiatives that broaden the pipeline for future DVM students. Additionally, I am eager to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to create an admissions process that is both equitable and strategic, ensuring we continue to attract the best and brightest candidates.”
Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr. Sellars enjoys Caribbean cruises, the automobile industry, portrait photography, exploring the latest in gadgets and electronics and road cycling.
