As an educator, this Tiger has a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of bright young professionals. The recipient of the 2002 Alumni Master Teacher Award, he says he enjoys the process of learning and growing with his Clemson Family.

Meet Dennis Bausman.

Title: Professor and endowed faculty chair

Years at Clemson: 22 years

What I do at Clemson: I am a professor in the undergraduate and graduate program for the Department of Construction Science and Management. I also spend time on various research projects – primarily for industry organizations and/or the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). I am currently serving as a co-investigator on two sponsored projects, including one for the Job-Site Safety Institute focusing on advancing best practices for construction safety. The second is a project jointly funded by SCDOT and the USDOT Center for Connected Multimodal Mobility titled The Evaluation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones) to Supplement Traditional Bridge Inspections in South Carolina. I will be also be working as a principal investigator on a second project for SCDOT to update the agency’s Project Development Process with current best practices.

What I love about Clemson: My colleagues, the students and the environment of the university (including Clemson sports) – the entire Clemson experience.

My defining moment at Clemson: My defining moment at Clemson took place shortly after I started, when I was teaching my first class and realized that I was actually connecting with the students.

Accomplishment I’m most proud of: Being awarded Clemson’s Alumni Master Teacher Award.

Where I see myself in five years: In the classroom, developing the many talented young professionals moving through our halls.

Last thing I watched on TV: The College Football National Championship, of course.

Guilty pleasure: Chocolate candy and long vacations in warm climates.

One thing most people don’t know about me: I play softball and I am also an avid cyclist.
