Jim Grieger named executive director, enterprise environmental health and safety

Jim Grieger, CIH, CSP, CHMM, has been named Clemson University’s executive director, enterprise environmental health and safety, effective Jan. 1, 2020.

Grieger will report to Tony Wagner, executive vice president of finance and operations, and he will develop, lead and execute strategic plans to ensure Clemson has a comprehensive environmental health and safety program with the goal of providing the safest possible environment for the University’s students, faculty, staff and visitors.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina’s Master of Public Health – Industrial Hygiene program and a current member of the fourth cohort of the President’s Leadership Institute at Clemson University, Grieger joined Clemson in 2013 as director of the Office of Research Safety. Since 2013, Grieger has provided the University leadership to drive Clemson’s commitment to continuous improvement, and he and his team engineered programs in radiation safety, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene and laboratory safety. His group supports main campus and all Clemson facilities throughout the state, establishing formal safety partnerships and programs at each Clemson site throughout the state. He has staff at Research Park and CURI in North Charleston.

Prior to his leadership at Clemson, Grieger was Cornell University’s associate director of research safety, EH&S. Grieger holds professional certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, just to name a few.
