Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Gary Wiser was recently honored by his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order, as the organization’s 36th recipient of the Accolade for Interfraternal Service. The award was presented at the annual conference of the Southeastern Greek Leadership Association (SGLA), with Wiser serving as its executive director from 2014-25.
The Accolade for Interfraternal Service serves as an expression of Kappa Alpha Order’s continuing commitment to the American College Fraternity System. The award was established in 1983 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the Greek or fraternity community.
“It means a lot for my organization to see the work I’ve done outside of Clemson,” says Wiser, who says SGLA has grown into one of the largest Greek leadership conferences in the country. “Joining Kappa Alpha Order as a freshman really changed my life and career. I’m really honored to receive this recognition.”
Wiser is no stranger to professional honors within the Fraternity and Sorority Life community. In 2022, he received the Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors.
Fraternity and Sorority Life has seen incredible growth at Clemson during Wiser’s tenure. This past fall, membership grew to a record-high 6,825 students, representing 13 different countries and 48 of the 50 states. Academically, fraternity and sorority members achieved a collective 3.5 GPA, with 86% of organizations exceeding 3.0. Additionally, chapters combined to serve over 40,000 hours in the local community and raise more than $568,000 toward philanthropic initiatives. Most recently, Clemson’s governing councils received regional and national accolades for outstanding contributions to Greek life and the local community.
Wiser joined Kappa Alpha Order as an undergraduate student at Middle Tennessee State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He owns two additional degrees from Western Kentucky University and this past August earned a master’s in human resource development from Clemson.
