Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business students were afforded a unique experience in the center of global finance, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). On the last day of a culmination of unique experiential learning opportunities, students witnessed the ringing of the iconic opening bell, got a behind-the-scenes tour from Clemson alumni and connected with financial professionals.

To kick off the exciting day, students had the opportunity to see the NYSE open with the ringing of the opening bell. Students were then taken on a tour by Clemson alumni who now work at the NYSE. On the tour, students had multiple opportunities to connect with traders and other NYSE employees, gaining a deeper understanding of the daily operations and the challenges associated with working at the NYSE. The students were able to ask questions, discuss recent market trends and explore various career paths within the financial sector.

In addition to networking, students were given a behind-the-scenes look into the filming of financial news shows, highlighting the importance media has in promoting NYSE content and disseminating information on an international scale.

Isabelle Roy, a junior marketing major reflects on her time in New York. “We had the privilege of witnessing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, a moment that emphasized the global significance of the financial markets. From a marketing perspective, we gained a deeper understanding of how the New York Stock Exchange is promoted in a consistent manner across all relevant social media platforms,” she says. “I am overwhelmed with appreciation for the countless invaluable experiences that have enriched my understanding of the business world.”
