The Clemson University Fire & EMS Department (CUFD) has added a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) to its fleet that will allow the department to respond to medical emergencies occurring in the City of Clemson. The new addition began responding to calls for service on March 10.
“Clemson University Fire and EMS is thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with the city in adding an additional response resource,” CUFD Chief Rick Cramer said. “This allows us to expand our partnership in a way that will be mutually beneficial for both parties.”
The QRV is a smaller, non-transporting emergency vehicle staffed by a full-time paramedic and designed to respond quickly to emergencies, providing immediate medical care and support before a full-sized ambulance arrives. This allows for faster response for medical emergencies to better support the Clemson community.
“This Quick Response Vehicle isn’t just a new piece of equipment; it’s a direct answer to a critical need within our community,” said Clemson Mayor Robert Halfacre. “We’ve seen the demand for faster medical response, especially given that almost half of CUFD’s calls come from right here in Clemson. Together, the City of Clemson and CUFD are ensuring our residents receive the immediate, life-saving care they deserve.”
The addition of the QRV strengthens and expands the department’s partnership with the city of Clemson. CUFD is contracted to provide fire response in the city and manages Station No. 2, which is located on Issaqueena Trail in the city. In 2024, 49.58% of the department’s total responses occurred within the city.
