Faculty Senate announced its the 2025-26 Faculty Senate awards during its April monthly meeting and transition ceremony.

Alan Schaffer Senator of the Year: Cameron Bushnell

The Alan Schaffer Faculty Senate Service Award commemorates the late Alan Schaffer. Schaffer served as the Head of the Department of History and as a professor of History for over thirty years. Professor Schaffer was the epitome of faculty governance and provided unstinted service to the University by serving two terms as a Faculty Senator, as a Grievance Counselor, as a member of the University Grievance Board, as Faculty Manual Editorial Consultant and as Chair and member of various Faculty Senate Standing Committees. He served with great distinction as Faculty Senate President in 1993-1994. Schaffer’s life was characterized by service to the faculty of Clemson University. This award was created in 2006 to honor his commitment to Faculty Service and encourage others to emulate his commitment to faculty governance.

Advisory Committee Senator of the Year: Paul Gordon-Ross

The Advisory Committee is comprised of two faculty from each college, one serving in the position of Lead Senator. This committee not only serves as the primary appointing committee for the Faculty Senate, but also provides feedback and advice to the Faculty Senate President, the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs, the Provost, and the President. Each year, the Advisory Committee recognizes one senator for outstanding leadership and service within their college.

Executive Committee Senator of the Year: Anna Baker

The Executive Committee is comprised of the Officers of the Faculty Senate and the standing and temporary committee chairs. The Executive Committee assists the President of the Faculty Senate in prioritizing and directing the work of the Faculty Senate. This includes adopting the Standing Agenda that sets the work for the session and adopting new initiatives as they arise. Each year, the Executive Committee also recognizes a senator for the work they do within their committees to advance the mission of the Senate. The Executive Committee selected this faculty member because of her dedication to the Senate and unwavering commitment to faculty involvement in shared governance.
