From prolonged droughts to increasingly severe flooding, water-related challenges are affecting agriculture, communities and economies across the Southeast. Research that helps communities better anticipate and respond to these challenges is increasingly important. C. Prakash Khedun, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in Clemson University’s Agricultural Sciences Department and a member of the Water Resources Program Team. Based at the South Carolina Water Resources Center in Pendleton, South Carolina, Khedun provides expertise on drought, flooding, water availability, climate variability and the water-related challenges affecting agriculture and communities across the Southeast.

Bio

Khedun’s research focuses on understanding how hydrological extremes such as droughts and floods affect water availability and water resources management. He studies the influence of climate variability and large-scale climate patterns on the hydrological cycle, with an emphasis on improving preparedness and resilience in the face of changing environmental conditions.

His work combines statistical methods, machine learning and data analytics to monitor, model and forecast hydrological extremes. By developing tools that improve understanding of water-related risks, Khedun helps support decision-making for water managers, agricultural stakeholders, planners and policymakers responsible for managing limited water resources.

Khedun joined Clemson University in 2022. Before coming to the South Carolina Water Resources Center, he served as program coordinator in the water management and hydrological science degree program at Texas A&M and as a senior lecturer at the University of Mauritius in Moka, Mauritius.
