With students returning to campus and the 2025-26 academic year set to get underway, the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) has launched the Safety Pledge campaign. It encourages students, faculty and staff to pledge to put safety first in 2025-26 by making responsible choices and looking out for their fellow Tigers.

“We’re excited to launch the Safety Pledge to kick off the new academic year,” said Interim CUPD Chief Christopher Harrington. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility. By taking the Safety Pledge, you are committing to doing your part to help make Clemson University as safe as possible and create a culture of shared responsibility and accountability.”

The safety pledge asks members of the University community to commit to the following actions:

  • Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs because one reckless moment can change a life forever.
  • Always choose a safe way home, whether that’s a designated sober driver or rideshare.
  • Stand up for your fellow Tigers by stepping in when someone’s at risk and helping them make smart choices.
  • Be a voice for safety and responsibility because real leadership starts with doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult.
  • Reject hazing in all forms—physical, emotional or psychological—because true belonging is built on respect, not harm.

Everyone who signs the Safety Pledge will be entered into a drawing, with one student and one faculty/staff member each receiving a football signed by the 2025 Clemson Football team. Additionally, the student organization that has the most students sign the safety pledge will be recognized.
