David Clayton has been appointed as the Executive Director for the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), after serving in an interim capacity for the last six months.
Clayton, who joined the University in November of 2018, also serves as assistant vice president in the Office of Corporate Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives. In his expanded role, he will continue to focus on fostering and managing business development strategies for Clemson, as well as supporting the growth of partnerships within CU-ICAR.
“The accomplishments David has made in his short time since joining Clemson have proven his abilities in fostering strategic partnerships and serving as a leader within the CU-ICAR campus,” said Angela Leidinger, vice president for External Affairs. “His commitment to building relationships and working collaboratively with faculty and partners alike to provide solutions to business needs will be a key asset in his expanded role.”
Since his arrival at Clemson, Clayton has contributed to strengthened relationships with corporate partners, like Bosch and Samsung, as well as supporting communication among partners and staff on the great work faculty are doing as part of these strategic partnerships. As Executive Director he will continue to provide leadership to faculty and staff within the CU-ICAR campus and work collaboratively to foster growth of existing partners, while also working with economic development agencies on new opportunities.
“As a Greenville native, it’s gratifying to help support the community’s growth in my new role at CU-ICAR and the cutting-edge research the teams here are doing,” said David Clayton, executive director of CU-ICAR and assistant vice president of corporate partnerships and strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining Clemson, Clayton served as the executive director of the Greenville Technical College Center for Manufacturing Innovation. His experience in integrating research and education with corporate partnerships is a valuable asset to his expanded role, as is his prior experience working with CU-ICAR as a partner.
